Online Searching
Everything was fine in the life of internet marketers everywhere. Fine meaning that their sites were ranking well, when they created a new site they knew how to set them up in a way where they can rank well for the keywords they were targeting. Then all of a sudden something which was coined “Mayday” occurred. Obviously the change took place in May 2010.
Webmasters around the world started to see their site lose traffic and couldn’t understand why this was happening. This went on for a couple of weeks and then finally in the beginning of June 2010, the “caffeine” change took place. This update was “Big G’s” way of trying to give end users the best results possible when they did a search through their site.
How did this new search algorithm effect my traffic? A bunch. The reason why was because some of my sites went from being on the first page in search engine results to being on the seventh. Now who knows to go to the seventh page to find my site, nobody but me. So if somebody is looking for me, they are not going to find me. Or if somebody is doing for a search for a keyword that I was ranking for, then they no longer will find my site.
So now i’m left thinking about what I did wrong and how to make things better. It seems that sites with long tail keywords got his the most. Which is beyond me because if somebody is searching for a long term keywork and I write a post about those words, I should rank for that end user. Apparently not anymore.
I understand that some websites do not have enough content on them but do I have to have a newspaper site to rank well? Turns out good content and quality post will help regardless of the amount of backlinks going to your site. Backlinks don’t hurt but now the quality of your content is what search engines are going to want. Lets see what happens.
