Internet Marketing
Internet marketing is when you offer products online and use the web to help market those products to consumers. People are fascinated with the internet because people all over the world are literally potential customers. So customers open their web browsers and first type in the domain address of their favorite search engine.
People then type in keywords and search for information or products that are offered. This is why internet marketers design their site in a way where their site can appear high in search engine results. Even the ugliest of websites can make money if they are setup properly. The race is on because everyone wants to be at the top of search results and so there are people who make a living creating websites that generate money automatically. So websites are great for internet marketers because they can build residual income by creating sites and adding rich content that search engines love.
The idea is to provide content that is relevant to the end user. Nobody wants to put information on the web for themselves to read. People and businesses alike want to draw as much internet traffic to their site as possible. The more traffic a site gets, the more chances of making a sell or generating a lead. The dream for every online marketer is that they can gather as much information from every person that visits their site.
Internet marketers want to know the following information when you visit their site:
- what keyword search term brought you to their site
- how long did you stay on the site
- how many pages you visited (this is called the bounce rate and it is given as a percentage)
- what links did you click on during your visit
- did you purchase anything or click on an advertisement
- did you enter your email address and name to subscribe to a list
Why do marketers want to know so much information about your visit? Because they want to know what works and what doesn’t work so they can perfect their system. Businesses want to know how to get their information or products in front of the right people so they use analytics on their websites to track visitor trends. This also helps to know which products are hot and which ones do not perform.
Many start off by creating several sales pages to see which generates the most traffic and the most leads. Those leads are then put into a sales funnel until they have purchased or seen every product that the marketer has to offer. The cycle is repeated with every visitor that enters their website and gives enough information to be marketed to.
So what is internet marketing?
A race to see who can get your purchase first, meaning getting their site to the top of search engines and then giving you enough information that can get you to purchase and become a regular customer. People have made a fortune doing what has just been described to you.
